Edgar Fabián Frías [ Embodying Our Collective Change ] Embodying Our Collective Change is a processional event in which participants gather in the exhibition space, create their individual processional vestments, and then are led by the artist through a brief exploration of the campus. In dialogue with a similar work from 2020 (The Holographic Space & Time Ceremony), which was Fabián Frias’s last in-person event before the pandemic altered life in the United States, this 2021 processional event seeks to maintain the earlier work’s interest in altering familiar expectations of how to conduct oneself in an exhibition space while also allowing participants the opportunity to reflect on how our relationship with the exterior world has been altered during this time period. The piece thus gains meaning through this dialogue between repetition and transformation, opposing practices that are enacted by the participants throughout the procession in the same way that they are realized by the artist through their act of reconceptualization.
