Anxious to Make [ Performance Validations
] Performative Validations is a series of short videos that addresses the blocks or anxieties that artists face by outsourcing them to the sharing economy. Each video includes a for-hire spokesperson—sourced from the gig-economy platform, Fiverr.com—performing a script written by Anxious to Make that addresses one of the artists’ existential or professional anxieties: for example, working with unfamiliar materials or overcoming creative block. As the spokespeople in these videos impart their personal messages of affirmation and validation, we are reminded as viewers of the everyday unfamiliarity we confront when we participate in an economic model that extracts value from the trust and intimacy developed between complete strangers.
